History of Marina Carenero
Marina Carenero was established in 1997 and officially opened on January 1, 1998. The original dock was constructed of inexpensive native materials and upgraded to marine treated pine posts and decking in 2003-2004.
The marina is located in the cove of Careening Cay (Carenero Key), a safe distance of 200 meters from the town of Bocas. The site is cooled by the abundant sea breeze and protected virtually 360 degrees by the surrounding islands. Power, water and telephones come from the town of Bocas under the 100 meter wide channel between the islands.
The original concept was to provide a friendly, safe and service-oriented center for boaters based on the owner’s cruising experiences. The scope of services offered is really too numerous to mention, as it includes fulfilling many personal and sometimes peculiar requests from absentee boat owners. Basically, we are here to help the cruising yachtsman.
The owner, Mary Robertson, has lived in Bocas since 1997. She cruised the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean before moving to Panama. She has raised 2 children in Bocas, homeschooling them for college in the United States.
